There are 537 LGAs in Australia ranging in size from the smallest, the Shire of Peppermint Grove in Western Australia with app. 1,524 residents over 1.4 sqkm to the largest, East Pilbara Council with 11,005 residents over 379,571 sqkm and the most populous being the City of Brisbane with a population of 1.25 million residents.
